Summary
- Go to ban-pdm.id, select the Data Akreditasi menu (Accreditation Data) and then Tabel Data Akreditasi (Accreditation Data Table). Enter the school's NPSN or name, then open its profile to see the rating, decree number (nomor SK), and expiry year.
- An accreditation result is either accredited (rated A, B, or C) or not accredited, and it is valid for five years. Renewal at the same rating happens automatically based on data.
- Since 19 June 2026, accreditation has been governed by Permendikdasmen 14/2026, and BAN-PDM (the national accreditation body for schools and madrasahs) has become the Badan Standar dan Akreditasi Nasional Pendidikan (BSANP, the National Education Standards and Accreditation Agency). Data is still accessible at ban-pdm.id.
You can check a school's accreditation status for free in a few minutes on the official accreditation body's website, using only the school's name or NPSN. This guide explains the steps, how to find an NPSN, how to read the results, and what changed in 2026. We also explain the limits: accreditation shows general eligibility and service quality, but it does not answer every question you have about a school.
What Is School Accreditation?
School accreditation is an assessment that determines whether a school is eligible, based on the quality of its educational services. This definition appears in Permendikdasmen 14/2026 on the Badan Standar dan Akreditasi Nasional Pendidikan, Article 1. The result shows whether a school meets the minimum criteria and, if it does, at what rating.
Accreditation covers SD and MI (elementary schools and Islamic elementary madrasahs), SMP and MTs (junior high schools and Islamic junior high madrasahs), and secondary schools (Article 46). According to the 2024 accreditation instrument guide from BAN-PDM, the assessment focuses on four components: teachers' performance in learning, principal leadership, the learning environment, and student learning outcomes. Assessors gather evidence through observation, interviews with principals, teachers, students, and parents, and document review.
How to Check School Accreditation on the BAN-PDM Website
The fastest way is the accreditation data page at ban-pdm.id. Search by school name or NPSN, and you do not need an account. We checked the steps below directly on 26 October 2026, when the site still used the BAN-PDM name even though the agency had become BSANP.
- Go to ban-pdm.id. Use this official site, not a third-party site that offers "accreditation checks".
- Select the Data Akreditasi menu, then Tabel Data Akreditasi. You will land on the Accreditation Data for Educational Units page.
- Wait for the data to load. The table loads after the page opens and can take some time. If a message says the data is being processed, reload the page after a moment.
- Enter the NPSN or school name in the search box. Type at least two characters, then choose the school from the list that appears. If several names look similar, match the address or NPSN.
- Read the school profile. The profile page shows the NPSN, name, type of education, address, and province. Below it is an Accreditation History table with the rating, decree number, accreditation year, expiry year, and a download button.
- Compare it with the certificate. Download the certificate if it is available, or ask the school to show you its certificate. You can also check the decree number against documents in the Kebijakan (Policy) menu, under Unduhan SK (Decree Downloads).
If you cannot find the school, try searching by NPSN. A newly established school may only have an initial accreditation (Article 51). For questions or complaints about accreditation services, the BAN-PDM Q&A page directs you to the complaint feature on the site or to the official email address.
How to Find a School's NPSN
An NPSN (Nomor Pokok Sekolah Nasional, the National School Identification Number) is the identification number for a school in the data of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen). The easiest way to find it is through the Kemendikdasmen Reference Data site, which also shows whether a school is public or private, its operating permit number, and an accreditation field. If the NPSN is already printed in a brochure or on the school's website, you can skip this section.
- Open the Kemendikdasmen Reference Data site.
- Type the school's name in the "Cari Sekolah/NPSN" (Search School/NPSN) box at the top right. Alternatively, open the Data Pendidikan (Education Data) menu, select Satuan Pendidikan (Educational Units), then Pendidikan Dasar (Basic Education), and browse by region.
- Open the school profile and copy the NPSN. The profile also lists school status, type of education, supervising ministry, operating permit decree number, and accreditation.
You can also use the Sekolah Kita portal to view school profiles and compare several schools. If the data on the portal differs from ban-pdm.id, use ban-pdm.id and the official certificate as the reference for accreditation.
How to Check Madrasah Accreditation
You check madrasah accreditation in the same place. MI and MTs are part of the national accreditation scope alongside SD and SMP (Permendikdasmen 14/2026, Article 46), and the 2026 BAN-PDM list of accreditation results includes madrasahs with their full NPSNs. So search for the madrasah's name or NPSN on ban-pdm.id.
In the Kemendikdasmen Reference Data, a madrasah's profile lists the Ministry of Religious Affairs as its supervising ministry. This helps confirm that the institution is officially registered. For differences in admission rules between SD and MI, see the differences between public, private, SDIT, MI, and SPK elementary schools.
What A, B, C, and Not Accredited Mean
An accreditation result has only two statuses: accredited or not accredited. An accredited school meets the minimum criteria and is placed in one of three ratings: A, B, or C. A school that is not accredited has not met the minimum criteria (Permendikdasmen 14/2026, Articles 49–50). The regulation uses only the letters A, B, and C for ratings.
| Result | Meaning under the rules | What you can do |
|---|---|---|
| Accredited A | Meets the minimum criteria, highest rating | Check the expiry year, then still visit the school |
| Accredited B | Meets the minimum criteria, second rating | Ask about the assessment results and the improvement plan |
| Accredited C | Meets the minimum criteria, third rating | Ask which areas scored lower and what steps are planned to improve them |
| Not accredited (listed as "TT" in the decree list) | Does not yet meet the minimum criteria; the school receives improvement recommendations and must apply for accreditation again within two years at the latest (Articles 56 and 65) | Consider this very carefully and ask about the improvement plan |
| No status yet | A new school, or one that has never applied for accreditation | Ask about its operating permit and plans to apply for accreditation |
A rating decision comes with an explanation of the assessment results as feedback for the school (Article 54). You can ask for a summary of that explanation when you visit. If a school remains not accredited after being reassessed, the result is reported as a basis for merging or closing the school (Articles 57 and 65).
How Often Is School Accreditation Renewed?
An accreditation status and rating are valid for five years (Permendikdasmen 14/2026, Article 54, paragraph 4). Schools are not always visited again every five years. If the rating stays the same, renewal happens through an automated mechanism that monitors school profile and report card data, along with the ministry's databases (Article 58).
Assessors conduct on-site inspections when there are signs that quality has declined or improved (Article 59). Suspected declines in quality can come from data analysis, public complaints, or other information, and inspections can take place at any time (Article 60). A status can also be revoked before it expires if a school is found to have submitted false data, or if a case occurs that endangers the safety and security of people in the school (Article 55).
In practice, check the "Tahun Berakhir" (Expiry Year) column in the accreditation history. If the year has passed and no new row has appeared, ask the school about its current status.
School Accreditation 2026: What Changed?
The biggest change in 2026 is institutional, not the meaning of the ratings. Permendikdasmen 14/2026, effective 19 June 2026, revokes Permendikbudristek 38/2023 and establishes BSANP, which combines the development of National Education Standards and the implementation of accreditation under one agency. For parents, the way to check and read the results has barely changed.
- Implementers: school accreditation is carried out by the Komite Akreditasi Nasional Pendidikan Formal (KAN PF, the National Accreditation Committee for Formal Education) under BSANP. BAN-PDM members continue to serve until new members are appointed (Article 74).
- Website: a notice on the ban-pdm.id homepage says data and services remain accessible there until the migration to the new address is complete.
- What stays the same: the A, B, and C ratings, the five-year validity period, and automatic data-based renewal.
- Deadline: schools whose establishment permit is more than two years old but have never applied for accreditation must apply by 31 December 2026 at the latest (Article 73).
What Accreditation Cannot Tell You
Accreditation answers whether a school is eligible and what the general quality of its services was when it was assessed. It does not tell you whether a school suits your child, how much it costs, or what has changed since the assessment. For those things, you still need to visit and ask directly.
- Fees and increases. Details on entrance fees (uang pangkal), monthly tuition (SPP), and other levies are not included in accreditation results.
- Current classroom conditions. The number of students per class and the teachers who teach can change from year to year.
- Changes since the assessment. The principal or teachers may change within the five-year validity period.
- Fit with your child. Learning approach, school values, and distance from home can only be judged by the family.
Bring a list of questions for a school open house to complement the accreditation results. For private schools, accreditation also matters beyond quality: if public school capacity is insufficient, local governments can involve accredited private schools in new student admissions through cooperation arrangements (Permendikdasmen 3/2025, Article 28, paragraph 5).
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I check a school's accreditation using its NPSN?
Go to ban-pdm.id, select Data Akreditasi and then Tabel Data Akreditasi, and enter the NPSN in the search box. If you do not know the NPSN yet, search for the school in the "Cari Sekolah/NPSN" box on the Kemendikdasmen Reference Data site.
How often is school accreditation renewed?
Accreditation is valid for five years. If the rating stays the same, it is renewed automatically based on data, and assessors visit when there are signs that a school's quality has declined or improved.
What is the difference between A, B, and C accreditation?
All three mean the school is accredited and meets the minimum criteria. A is the highest rating. Ask for an explanation of the assessment results so you know the school's strengths and weaknesses.
Why is accreditation data not showing on ban-pdm.id?
The data on that page loads in stages. Wait or reload the page after a moment. In the meantime, you can check the accreditation field in the Kemendikdasmen Reference Data and ask the school to show you its certificate.
Does BAN-PDM still exist?
BAN-PDM has become BSANP under Permendikdasmen 14/2026. As of 26 October 2026, accreditation data is still accessible through ban-pdm.id during the migration process.
