Many parents compare private and public schools. The two do differ, so it pays to look closely at each school before choosing. If you are looking for a school for your child, here are the main differences between private and public schools:

Contents
  1. School Fees
  2. Better Facilities
  3. Number of Students

School Fees

The first difference is cost. Fees at private and public schools are clearly different. Public schools are more affordable because elementary (SD) and junior high (SMP) public schools are free, thanks to government funding. Private schools, from SD through senior high (SMA), require full payment since they receive no government funding. Private school fees are higher and above average because these schools have their own vision and mission.

Better Facilities

Facilities are another difference worth considering. The facilities at public and private schools are not the same. A quality private school typically has complete facilities. Public schools, by contrast, must wait for government assistance before they can build new facilities. In this respect, public schools can be said to fall behind private ones.

The learning environment at private schools is also more conducive than at public schools. Classrooms have air conditioning, LCD projectors, laptops and several other facilities that support learning. Even so, public schools are exempt from building fees, unlike private schools.

Number of Students

The most striking difference between private and public schools is the number of students. Far more students attend public schools than private ones, because monthly tuition (SPP) and overall education costs are lower. A public school can accommodate 40 students, while private schools have just 20 to 30. Public schools also have many more classes than private schools, so teachers at public schools may only pay attention to the students who stand out.

That covers the three key differences between private and public schools. We hope this information is helpful.
